Overview

Diving Buddy is an offline-first iOS app for scuba divers. Your dive data — trips, sites, plans, logs, gear, certifications, and photos — lives on your device. Privacy isn't a feature we bolt on; it's the default because the app simply doesn't have a server to send data to.

Data We Collect

Diving Buddy does not collect, store, or transmit your personal dive data to us. Specifically:

We do not operate any servers or cloud services for your dive content.
We do not sell, share, or monetise your data in any way.
We do not use third-party advertising SDKs.

Data Stored on Your Device

The following information is stored locally on your iPhone or iPad to provide the app's functionality:

Trips, locations, dive sites, plans, and logs — saved as JSON files in the app's Documents directory.
Photos attached to sites and locations — saved as image files in the app's Documents directory.
User profile — certifications, default units, coordinate format preference, rolling SAC average.
Gear profiles, checklists, and imported dive computer logs.
App preferences — your settings and display options.

This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it via Profile → Export My Data, which produces a single JSON archive and hands it to the system share sheet for you to decide where it goes.

Network Communication

Diving Buddy only uses the network for:

Apple MapKit — when you view a dive site on a map, MapKit fetches map tiles from Apple. We do not see or store any data about which maps you view.
Apple StoreKit — when you subscribe, restore purchases, or check entitlement status. We never see your payment information; Apple handles the transaction.
Firebase Crashlytics — anonymous crash reports help us fix bugs. No personal data, dive content, or photos are ever sent. You can disable this in Settings.

Importing a dive computer file (UDDF/XML) is a local file operation — nothing is uploaded.

Subscriptions & Purchases

Subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are processed by Apple through the App Store. Diving Buddy verifies your purchase entitlement via Apple's StoreKit framework but does not receive or store your payment details. Refer to Apple's Privacy Policy for how Apple handles purchase data.

Children's Privacy

Diving Buddy is intended for divers and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Data Export & Deletion

You can export every piece of data the app holds at any time via Profile → Export My Data. To delete your data, delete the app — iOS will remove the entire Documents directory along with it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
